Why We Offer Collared Ferrules - And Why DIY Builders Benefit

What Makes a Collared Ferrule Different?

Traditional ferrules are simply tapered sleeves that slide over the shaft of an iron and sit at the top of the hosel. They provide a clean finished appearance, but they don’t contribute to alignment, stability, or long-term retention.

Collared ferrules, however, include a small internal extension — a collar — that seats slightly inside the top of the hosel. While the collar is shallow (around 2 mm) and may seem minor, it delivers some meaningful advantages:

Improved Shaft Centering

The collar helps position the shaft more consistently at the top of the hosel during assembly. It doesn’t replace proper epoxy technique, but it reduces small variations that can occur when building without specialized tools.

Added Stability and Long-Term Durability

Because the collar sits inside the hosel, it becomes partially embedded in the epoxy. This creates a small mechanical anchor point that helps:

  • Minimize lateral movement during handling and curing
  • Reduce the chance of ferrule creep over time
  • Improve overall retention at the hosel/ferrule interface

Through countless builds, tests, and tear-downs, one thing has been consistent: clubs assembled with collared ferrules are noticeably more difficult to disassemble. This added retention is a strong indicator of long-term durability, and it’s a key reason why we exclusively use collared ferrules in our own builds and test clubs.

What Makes Our Collared Ferrules The Best Choice?

Cleaner Installs With Minimal Post Work

Our collared ferrules are selected and dimensioned to sit near flush with the outer diameter of the hosel, resulting in very limited to no post-installation cleanup or turning. This makes them especially helpful for home builders who may not have a belt sander or ferrule-turning setup.

Brand-Specific Listings for Better Confidence

Most ferrule listings online are generic, leaving builders unsure whether the ferrule will look correct or fit properly on their irons. To eliminate that uncertainty, we test-fit our collared ferrules on multiple popular heads within each OEM line and organize our listings accordingly. This ensures that the profile, height, visual proportions, and mechanical fit at the hosel all align with what golfers expect.

Final Thoughts

Ferrules may be a small component, but they have a big impact on both appearance and long-term durability. Collared ferrules offer improved centering, better stability during curing, and a more reliable interface that holds up over time — all with minimal finishing work required.

By offering collared ferrules that are test-fit on popular iron models, we aim to make club building more accessible, consistent, and confidence-inspiring for DIY builders at every experience level.
