TAS vs TSS: Which TaylorMade Weight to Order

If you've shopped aftermarket TaylorMade sole weights, you've probably run into this: your head and the listing both says Qi35, you order a weight, and it isn't right for the club you actually have.

That's usually not a bad listing, it's a TAS vs. TSS style difference. Qi35 family clubs are the most affected.

  • Qi35 drivers take TAS weights.
  • Qi35 fairways and hybrids take TSS weights.

Same generation name, two different weights. Order by model alone without reading the specs, and it's easy to get the wrong one in the cart.

Qi4D is simpler: driver, fairway, and hybrid all use TAS-style weights exclusively.

What TAS and TSS Weights Are

TAS (Trajectory Adjustment System) is the sole weight used on:

  • Qi4D drivers, fairways, and hybrids
  • Qi35 drivers (not the Max)
  • The R7 Quad Mini

TSS is the older, slimmer round weight used on:

  • Qi35 fairways and hybrids
  • Earlier Qi10-era woods

The two are not interchangeable. A TAS weight in a TAS port sits flush. Put a TAS weight into a TSS port and it sits proud of the sole.

One TAS Weight Family, But Markings Can Differ

The markings on a TAS weight can differ by model. Qi35-era designs don't match R7 or Qi4D markings. The physical dimensions, though, are the same. Different marking, same fit. TAS vs. TSS is the designation that actually matters.
